No, you don't need gas. You can use a generator or a wind turbine. The pacer couldn't be grinded because it gestates. It doesn't lay eggs. (That's not the case for all mammals the ovis can be grinded, but imo not worth). You don't have to walk them into the grinder either, you can set up a breeding area above it so the eggs drop down and when hatched the babies are ground up. The amount of resources you get are based on the dinos level. The grind range is 1 wall high, but its not accurate at all times. If you set up a breeding group above the grinder put a row of ceilings 1 quarter wall high over rhe grinder. Otherwise dinos hatching will occasionally mesh into the ginded and won't be ground up. Tek parasaurs are the best imo as they have a short breeding/hatching cycle, then tek stegos (i haven't tested tek trikes) then yuties. Two honorable mentions would be penguins (poly) and mantis (chitin + poly).

Shoulder pets are underrated. Literally after a dilo, the first carnivore i always try to tame is a dimorph. They can still bite from your shoulder while you are unconscious or blocking with a shield. And if you are chasing a kill, you can throw them at it and if theyre faster than you, that helps lol. Sadly they are halfway useless as air defense from seaguls. They will dogfight and circle each other while flying higher and higher. Unless you have a lot of melee dmg on it. Anyway thats just with one lol. The first time i did a cave, i brought 1 on my shoulder and 2 more flying on follow 😂 they helped me and my raptor a lot. Can be hard to keep track of though.

They definitely can't protect you from Spinos lol. Their giant sweeping attack and big damage smacks these out of the air easily. They can help with rexes, but rexes obviously have TONS more health and damage. Unless you really bring a swarm of like 8. Which is unreasonable. Also, I don't know if you're just used to playing boosted or maybe things have changed, but their torpor drains quickly. In my experience, you need prime if you don't want to use any type of narcs.
